Dungeon crossing

Work in progress

Informations

  • A 2.5D Unity project for Android inspired by the visual style of Don’t Starve and the gameplay of Mystery Dungeon games.
It combines hand-drawn, stylized visuals with dungeon-crawling gameplay focused on exploration, combat, and procedural environments.
  • The project is developed as an experimental game project, with a focus on quality and scalability. The game should run at a smooth 60fps on a potato devise.
  • Dungeon Crossing is not the final name.
  • Development of the project began in 2022, with the goal of releasing an alpha version before 2028. The project is well advanced, the game is technically functional, but the content, sprites, and especially the visual identity of the interfaces need reworking.
  • The project will be released in French and English (maybe Polish).
  • A Steam release if the game works really well (since UI is an important part of the game i’ll have to redo a lots of them for horizontal screens)

Gameplay

What kind of game is it?
It is a single-player RPG focused on theorycrafting, dungeon, exploration and the story.

What do you actually do in the game?
You prepare your character in the main area, choose your skills, equipment and consumables, then enter a procedural dungeon. After completing a dungeon, you return to the main area to save, explore, progress the story and unlock new areas.

Is it turn-based?
No, The game is almost entirely static, the game responds to your actions, but it is not a turn-based game.

Is the game difficult?
The difficulty is intended to be around the level of a Pokemon game. It should be accessible and if you get stuck, you can improve your character and equipment through farming rather than being forced to master difficult mechanics.

Progression

How does character progression work?
The game features experience, currency and a traditional skill tree. Equipment is also extremely important: you are what you equip.

Is there a lot of character customization?
Yes. A major part of the game is building your character around different combinations of skills, equipment and consumables.

What is theorycrafting about?
The main challenge is figuring out how different systems interact. You can experiment with skills, equipment and consumables to create different builds and prepare specifically for the dungeon you’re about to enter.

Is equipment important?
Very. Equipment is one of the main ways to define your character and your build.

Can you upgrade equipment?
Yes. There is a dedicated system for upgrading and destroying equipment, designed to make equipment management an interesting part of progression rather than simply replacing old items with stronger ones.

Dungeons & Exploration

Are the dungeons procedurally generated?
Yes. The game features many procedural dungeons, providing replayability and different challenges.

Why do I need to explore the dungeons?
Dungeons are where you encounter enemies and obtain most of your loot.
Completing them can also unlocks new parts of the main area and allows you to progress through the game.

Is the whole game spent in dungeons?
No. The game is divided between preparation, dungeon gameplay and exploration of the main area.

Story

Does the game have a story?
Yes. There is a complete story planned around the role of the player character, the antagonist, the dilemmas of the greater good, fear and self preservation, the origin of the universe and ultimately its ending.
I did my best to imagine it so i hope you’ll like it.

The main area and the dungeons are connected to the progression of the story, rather than being disconnected challenges even though there will eventually be lighter side quests and optional exploration.

Monetization

The long-term monetization model is still being defined. One possibility is optional paid consumables that provide automatic improvements. Another possibility is optional advertising that can double dungeon rewards.

Can I remove the ads?
The game may offer a direct purchase to remove unwanted advertising or other non-essential monetization elements.

A hypothetical release on Steam will be via a paid game.
